What I thought about Romeo and Juliet like and dislike

What I liked about Romeo and Juliet was learning about it. I didn't know a lot of things about it that I know. I like knowing what ironic really means and not what Alanis Morisette portrayed it as. I liked reading the story along with seeing it and hearing it. I liked going over it so that I could really understand the entire thing. I liked learning a little about Shakespeare and who he was. I lied learning about the Globe Theatre and how it burned down to the ground.

What I did not like were the quiz's from night before readings. I would always get confused reading it alone and lost and start making up my own story so when the quiz's came I was thinking of something completely different. I also kinda just didn't like the play in general. I think that it is really stupid and not what we think of when we think of the greatest love story of all time. People don't fall in love over night, and if they do most likely it's not love but more of an infatuation with the person ,or lust, but not love how can you love someone you don't even know? You can't. I think that dieing for someone that you have known for less then four days is ridiculous and stupid. But other then that I liked learning everything that we did and it really let me know what the story was saying and what love was considered back in the day.

Early Marriage

Would I ever get married at this age…um no. I think having to do that or even wanting to do that is ridiculous. God I can’t at all imagine being married at this age. It would just be so weird. Even if the person was my destiny and who I was bound to marry, I just could not do it. I want to be a kid right now and have not and go out and not think about having someone at my side or waiting for me at home. I want to party mess around do bad things and not have someone to hurt by doing that. I don’t even know if that makes since but that’s how it is. The things that married couples do are just not things I want to be doing. Period. This is why I am glad I am not part of some high society in Hartford or something, that gives me an arranged married and tells me when and where it will be and when I will have kids and how I will work. I could not imagine having that life. To me life would just suck having everything planned out for you and not having any choices.
If I had to get married right now out of force or religion and I grew up knowing it was going to happen and this is just the way it is I’m not sure how I would feel about that. I mean thinking about me now and how I can barely handle myself I can’t imagine having to deal with someone else’s problems all the time. Ha that may sound mean but hey it’s the truth. I try not to lie. Man I can barely think about going on a date with someone let alone marrying someone. No, no, no not now, not for a very, very long time. I mean one day yes but not now. So I think that maybe if I was raised that way and had no choice then I would be ok with it but in general I would rather not.

4. How would you characterize the narrator, the fictive "Homer" whose voice we imagine as singing the verses of the Odyssey?

I think of Homer as a smart, deep voiced guy who is very serious yet fun. I think he would portray the story as an adventure telling with ups and downs in his voice, with character, to help who he is telling to to imagane what is really going on. He would be someone you would want to hear the story from again and again.

5. What kinds of behavior are treated as contemptible in the Odyssey?

What would be considered contemptible in the Odyssey would be robbing a man of his with , stealing his land food. Going againt a friend would also be contemptible turning your back and not being loyal. Like the suitors not believing Odysseus was still alive a stealing Odysseus' land and wanting to bed his wife.

6. How does the poem represent mortal women? Since Penelope is the most important woman in the Odyssey, what qualities does she possess, and how does she respond to the troubles she faces? (Some of the other women are of note, too-Eurycleia the serving woman, the faithless maidservants, Nausicaa the Phaeacian princess, and Helen of Sparta, Menelaus' queen, whose elopement with Prince Paris sparked the Trojan War.)

The poem in my opinion does not represent mortal women in a very good way. The way Odysseus is able to sleep with so many women and get away with it without queston of his loyalty to her is very week. But when it comes to dealing with life changes and being strong, the women are portrayed as very strong and hard on. Penelope never gave up hope and kept her promise but always hoped and sorta new Odysseus was near. She was able to raise a strong son that became a man all on her own.

7.How do Homer's gods think and behave? How do their actions and motivations differ from the conception of god in other religions of which you have knowledge? What role do the Homeric gods play in human affairs, and what is the responsibility of humans with respect to those gods?

Homer's gods think and behave in the way of they are powerful and mortal man is nothing with out them. That they are in full control. The actions of the gods in the Odyssey differ from gods in religion today is that the gods in the book were physically real and had powers to show off. Todays gods are more just there and never show physical being, we don't even know if they really are. The gods plays bigs roles in the story. Why Odysseus had such a long journey was purely based on a gods decision. Humans are supposed to worship these gods and let them know they know thwy are much high and mightly then they are.

The Odyssey

3.The Odyssey is still relevant today in the way heros and their journays come about. The Odyssey is about a log journey to being a hero and what it takes to be that. Odysseus is a man who seems to have a perfect life, with a wife at his side, a kingdom, and a new born son. Then when he was least expecting it he has to off and fight in a war. Not wanting to go at first he see' what he has to do and goes off to fight in it. Then after defeating Troy he starts his long journey home. Today, as many people know. the hero movies of our time follow the Odyssey plot. Have a life something, bad happens, you get weird powers, you run from them taking your time to try to hide it, then you realise what you have to do, which is save the world. The Odyssey created the hero story today, with a little drama cool powers and a girl you have the perfect all american super hero movie.

The Odyssey

2.What resonated with me from The Odyssey is how different the culture is compared to today. The way they lived is so different from how we live today, along with the way they dress, eat, and who they believe in. The way that Odysseus came home and Penelope took him back no questions asked but he had to make sure he was faithful is not at all how things are done today. She was expected to stay true while he was able to conquer all the women he wanted and feel no guilt. Today when that happens to couples it ruins a relationship. people are breaking up all the time because of cheaters and in the story Odsseus did not give a second thought to his relationship before he jump into bed with another women. Then when he got home his worst fear was that Penelope was not true to him. The way they go about relationships is completely different from how they do today. Then we come the the fashion. Greeks fashion is so differnet from what people wear today. The men wore shit-things and short skirts while the women wore long dresses and wraps over their heads. One of the biggest effects The Odyssey had on me though is the way they have powerful gods and goddesses. The way people believed in them so and trusted everything they said was really cool. These gods were not at all like what we have today either, they are powerful and mighty and have powers to show. While leaving it to their humans to do the main thinking and work they lend a helping hand and are guiding eyes throughout their big journeys. Athena was the goddess for Odysseus and while letting him think for himself helped him get what he needed.

The Odyssey

1.The Odyssey shows a perfect example of how Greek culture, values, and religion is so different compared to the 21st century. There are so many differences in the roles as men and women and how they act toward society. Men, in Greek culture, are seen as strong, powerful, and always in control. Women are seen as being in the house caring for the children and keeping things orderly, while being loyal to only one man. One big difference between the two roles is, is that men are really men when they have bed many women and women are whores when they bed more then there husbands. The Clothing in the culture is also very different then today. The Greeks mainly only wear skirts, tops and over clothes, women wearing wraps around their face. Another major part of Greek culture and religion is their belief in gods and goddesses. Greeks have a very strong belief that there are gods and goddesses that have powers much greater then man. Like Zeus is the ruler of the sky and then there is Poseidon who is the god of the sea. There are also certain gods or goddesses that are their guides through life. Like in the Odyssey Athena was Odysseus's goddess who helped him see what he had to do. Instead of one god, like we have today, the Greeks believe in many. These gods are their guides through life and the gods want them to think that man is nothing without them. The Greeks have great honor in them and believe everything they say. When the greeks need something they give their god a sacrifice such as a goat head or lamb. Which brings in food. The Greeks seem to like a lot of cheese, wine, bread, meat and olive oil. In the movie, The Odyssey, it seems to be the only thing they eat. Greeks are bigs fans of wine and cheese and that is one of there main foods.

The Movies

How I thought the movies were alike were in many ways. All the main characters seem to be fast talkers and always fast moving. They all always had some kind of animal in them. They also had some kind of spirit in them. All the movies are animated and the music is always very similar. They is always a main girl character too. There are also a lot of big blobs and flying or floating in a way no one can. They are all very magical.

How the Movies Effected Me

The movie Waking Life made me question a lot of things about life and reality. Am I really alive and where am I really? All these questions which I have had before became more real. I become crazy thinking about it. Is life what it is and how can I get out if it is not real? Can I get out? Am I some experiment with people watching me and when I die is that me going into the real reality. The movie just made me crazy and make me think I need a therapist. I mean that is what therapists do, deal with people like these. In other ways I thought it was a waist of time. If you put that much time into thinking about life then yu are not really living life but thinking of how you are living it. You become so consumed you miss out. Life is clearly not going to unfold itself any time soon if there is anything to be unfolded so why be the one figuring it out when there is nothing to figure out. Simple. Life is now and if there is anything else to it we will find out when we die and are taken to that reality. People seem to think to much and instead should be living by the simple rule of KISS, Keep It Simple Stupid. Life is so many things and there is only so much a person can do with it. So find what your good at and do. Live Learn Love. Not Live Question Think Question Obsess. That is no way to live. The movie gave me the idea that people have way to much time on their hands and need to smell the fresh air or pinch themselves to prove they are here and can just be. People we are here and always will be.
Then there was the Eternal Sunshine. That just let me know that I will never take my memory away for anything. People get memories for a reason. You do things for a reason. Tking away from those things makes you a lesser version of yourself and you become nothing but simple and stupid. Old people have so much knowlege because they have lived life and gone through so much and delt with it all. But when you take that away , when you become old you wit be an old person with the knowledge of a 22 year old not insite or oldness. It's like when you burn yourself if you take that memory away just because it was so bad then next time you get close to something hot then you don't know that that is a bad thing and you end up throughing yourself into a fire and you burn to nothing. You learn from break ups and how if feels to love. By taking your memory away of something like that you are taking away heart and love and who you have become from that. Then the worse part is is if that memory were ever to come back. It would become ten times harder to deal with it. Things that happen to a person make them and they have to choose if it breaks them or makes them. Life has it's purposes taking the effect aay change the universe. You go through life meant to do things and what you do effects everyone. Not doing what your meant to do is bad. memery determines how you react to things. Like if your boyfriend cheated on you and you take that memory away you don't know not to say no or have your guard way up if he tries to ask you out again. memory is life and without parts of it it is not life. So mine as well become a coma pacient because your not living to the fullest anyways. Take your experiances with life and do something with them don't through them away. if you kill someone with your trian because he ould not move write a book about it. Things happen and if we were to take away the stuff we don;t like about it we would be walking happys and that would be bad, very very bad.

How I am obsessive compulsive

Some of the ways I may be oc is the way I have to have my front door shut. If I hear someone come in the house I have to hear the door shut. I get crazy, antsy and unhappy when it does not shut. It is rather sad but I have a cat that is not supppose to go outside and he trys to every chance he gets. So if I could I would camp out by the door just to make sure that it gets closed. I also hate when people smoke in my house. It drives me up a wall. That is how I am OC.

Journal 3

An advantage in life, in my opinion, is that I have a British mother. Since she is British I have dual citizenship allowing me to work in england without any problems. I am also a really good ballet danser when I want to be.
My disadvantages would be that I don't have a good study system. I want but just don't. I find that I cram a lot.
